In the renovation of this industrial loft building in the SOMA district of San Francisco, Macromedia wished to express its intellectual verve and the collective effort of its employees in creating its products. The design for the 63,000 sf three-story building focused on revealing the rough concrete architecture of the existing structure, with high ceilings and abundant natural light - counterpoised against highly articulated engineering workstations and common areas with classic Modern furniture. A large central stair connects the three levels of the structurally renovated warehouse, and a new "industrial" canopy was added to announce the building entrance.
